Host Cherryville suffered a heartbreaking one-run defeat in the finale of Wednesday’s opening round of the Southeast American Legion baseball regional at Fraley Field.

All eight teams on Cherryville’s Fraley Field for the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Southeast American Legion Regionals.

Post 100 plays again in the eight-team, double-elimination regional on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against defending American Legion World Series champion Chesapeake, Va., Post 280.

Also on Thursday, the six-team, double-elimination Mid-South regional hosted by Cherryville at Gastonia’s Sims Legion Park gets underway.

Game 3 – Wheeling (WV) Post 1 vs. Garner (NC) Post 232 – Garner 6-5: Reliever Cam Copley (1 innings, 2 strikeouts) worked out of bottom of seventh inning jam for Garner, whose offense was led by Cash Grimsley (2 hits) and Jack Piccini (2 hits). Andrew Murdock (3 hits, double, 1 RBI) led Wheeling.

Game 4 – Jacksonville (FL) Post 316 vs. Host-Cherryville (NC) Post 100 – Jacksonville 4-3: Reliever and winner Lukas Broughman (2 1/3 innings, 5 strikeouts) and reliever Kaleb Stockwell (1 inning, 2 strikeouts, save) held the hosts scoreless to preserve a one-run victory. Jacksonville manufactured its four runs on two hits, five walks, two hit batters and one Cherryville fielding error. Nate Rollins (triple, 2 walks, 2 runs) led Cherryville.
