5-3-26 roundup: Pro basketball, baseball, auto racing, soccer and rodeo, High school baseball, tennis, soccer and softball, Middle school baseball, girls soccer, College baseball
By Richard Walker
Cherryville High School has a rich baseball history with 10 state titles and 1,451 all time victories entering this week’s state playoffs.

Just last week, the Ironmen added to that history with one of the rarest of baseball feats when Camden Williams threw a perfect game in Tuesday’s 10-0, 5-inning home win over Bessemer City.
Williams became only the second player in school history to do so.
The first, Allan Davidson, threw his gem 39 years earlier in 1987 against Bunker Hill.
Davidson met Williams last week during Cherryville’s final home game. Additionally, the two perfect game catchers – Allen Eaker in 1987 and Davin Digh last week – met each other and posed for pictures.
