The Carolina Panthers used their second day of the NFL Draft on Friday to fortify their defensive line and receiving corps.
At No. 49 overall in the second round, Carolina drafted Texas Tech nose tackle Lee Hunter.
A 6-foot-4, 318-pounder from Mobile, Ala., Blount High School, Hunter began his college career at Auburn in 2021 as a redshirt player.
He then followed Auburn coach Gus Malzahn to Central Florida where he played three seasons before completing his college career at Texas Tech.
And at No. 83 in the third round, the Panthers picked Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell II.
A 6-4, 198-pounder from Midland, Tex., Legacy High School, Brazzell played two years at Tulane and two years at Tennessee and finished his career with 136 catches for 2,072 yards and 16 TDs.
Before making the Hunter selection, Carolina traded the 2nd round No. 51 overall and 5th round No. 159 overall selections to Minnesota Vikings for 2nd round No. 49 overall and 6th round No. 196 overall picks.

Bly Borders of Shelby is one of the two recipients of the 2025-26 FloSports Outdoor Track & Field scholarships sponsored by the N.C. High School Athletic Association
Borders and Sofie Engell of Raleigh’s Enloe High School both have a 4.0 unweighted, cumulative grade point average entering their eighth and final high school semesters and senior outdoor track & field seasons.
Both student-athletes have participated in three sports – including cross country, swimming & diving (Borders), and indoor track & field (Engell) – for the last three school years.
Borders, an Eagle Scout, attended Governor’s School (content area – English) last summer, and pursues a goal to read 52 books per year.
“My admiration of fictional, altruistic characters has cultivated a real-world motivation to help people,” Borders said in a news release. “I’m fascinated by society and geography and approach them through the lens of history. I study maps and create my own, wishing I could travel within them.”
Borders has also participated in on-stage and technical capacities in Shelby’s theater program. Borders will attend Duke University in the fall.
Borders and Engell will be honored at the NCHSAA annual celebration in Greensboro on June 10 – where and when they will receive $1,000 scholarships to further their higher education.

The Rutherford County Sports Hall Of Fame (RCSHOF), presented by Hardin’s Drug, in conjunction with Golf Sponsors Forest City Honda and Chick-fil-A of Forest City, is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2026 T. Max Champion Memorial Golf Tournament.
The tournament will be held on Friday, July 31 at the Apple Vally Golf Course in Lake Luke, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration fee is $100.00 per player or $400.00 for a team of four and covers the green fee, cart usage and lunch.
First prize for Gross and Net Winners is $600.00 per team. Other prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries. Proceeds from the event go to support the RCSHOF Scholarship Fund and registration deadline is July 21.
