Two long-running high school baseball holiday tournaments begin on Monday in Gastonia and Shelby.
Stuart Cramer is the defending champion at the 38th Gaston County Easter tournament held at Gastonia’s Sims Legion Park and hosted this year by Highland Tech.
The Storm won their first title in that event a year ago when it knocked off North Gaston 7-2 in the school’s first championship game appearance.
North Gaston and South Point are the all-time leaders in titles with eight apiece for an event that rotated sites among the county’s schools from 1987 to 2008 before moving to the historic Sims Legion Park venue in 2009.
Crest is the defending champion at the 26th Cleveland County Easter tournament annually held at Shelby’s Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium.
The Chargers edged R-S Central 2-1 in that event a year ago. It gives Crest the all-time lead in titles with six.
