Cherryville’s Bobby Reynolds added another honor to his long, successful coaching career when the N.C. High School Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that he was a member of the 2026 NCHSAA Hall of Fame class.

A 1982 Cherryville High graduate, Reynolds was a three-sport athlete who was a key player on N.C. 2A baseball state championship teams in 1980 and 1982.

After playing baseball at UNC Wilmington, Reynolds embarked on a record-setting coaching career at Cherryville Junior and Senior High and later East Rutherford.

Additionally, Reynolds is the current Cherryville American Legion Post 100 head coach where he has guided his teams to five state titles and is the state’s all-time winningest coach.

Reynolds is a member of a class that also includes Michael Baker, Zoe Bell, Patty Evers, Greg Frey, Vicki Hamilton, Beecher “B.W.” Holt and Leonardo “Leo” Lockhart.

The NCHSAA Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant contributions to high school athletics through leadership, service, and achievement and will host a private reception for the new inductees on April 21 at the NCHSAA offices with the 2026 class formally inducted during a ceremony on August 15 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro.

Reynolds is being inducted after having one of the most successful baseball coaching career in N.C. prep history.

An assistant to 2020 NCHSAA inductee Henry Jones for five seasons that included a 1992 state title, Reynolds began a 28-year career as East Rutherford head coach from 1993 to 2020. He guided the Cavaliers to a 572-191 record with six state title, 15 conference championships and nine regional titles.

As a Legion coach for Post 100 and Gastonia Post 23, Reynolds will enter the 2026 season with a 927-434 record highlighted by 1998 and 2003 American Legion World Series runner-up finishes.

Reynolds becomes the 16th inductee for the NCHSAA Hall of Fame that began in 1988 with area connections. The others are the following:
