Boys high school basketball teams from Shelby, Lincolnton, Bessemer City, Cherryville, East Lincoln, Ashbrook, Huss and Crest and girls teams from Lincolnton, Shelby, Crest and East Lincoln are the area’s top historical postseason participants as the 2026 N.C. High School Athletic Association basketball playoffs begin on Tuesday.

Shelby’s boys will be making its area-record 66th postseason appearance this season, followed by Lincolnton (57th), Bessemer City (55th), Cherryville (50th), East Lincoln (41st), Ashbrook (39th), Huss (38th) and Crest (37th).

The girls most frequent postseason participants are Lincolnton (45th year), Shelby (44th), Crest (35th) and East Lincoln (31st). Gaston County record-holder East Gaston (30 appearances) didn’t qualify this year.
