11-11-25 roundup: Pro football and basketball, College football and basketball, High school football, basketball and soccer, Middle school soccer, volleyball and wrestling, Auto racing
By Richard Walker
Former East Lincoln High star Alec Burleson just received his highest honor he’s received during his major league career.

Last Friday, the 2017 East Lincoln High graduate was named National League Utility Player Silver Slugger Award.
Burleson, 26, hit .290 with 18 home runs, 69 RBIs and an .801 OPS in 139 games for the St. Louis Cardinals this season. He becomes the Cardinals’ first Silver Slugger Award winner since Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado in 2022.
A 2nd round pick by St. Louis in 2020 out of East Carolina after 3 years playing for the Pirates (2018-20), Burleson steadily climbed through the Cardinals’ farm system.
He was Class AA Memphis’ Rookie of the Year in 2022, breaking into the major leagues late in 2022.
