Winston-Salem State has four former area products, including a preseason All-CIAA pick, among more former high school standouts from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties playing college football this season.

Daylin Lee

Junior Daylin Lee, a 2023 Shelby High graduate and preseason All-CIAA quarterback, leads the Rams’ local contingent that also includes freshman wide receiver Ja’Hari Mitchell (Shelby 2020), senior running back Timothy Ruff II (Crest 2021), senior quarterback Isaiah Bess (Shelby 2020) and junior defensive lineman Joshua Gilbert (East Lincoln 2023).

Other players not included in the original Aug. 26 listing of local products playing college football are the following:

Brevard: Jaylen Brown (Mountain Island Charter 2022) is a senior defensive back, Reggie Taylor II (Mountain Island Charter 2022) a senior wide receiver and Donovan Reid (East Gaston 2025) a freshman defensive lineman for the Tornados.

Hunter Huss will hold a Blue/White Alumni Game on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the school’s Sylvia Hatchell Court.
