A local group of sports enthusiasts have honored top players from the last century in Cleveland County.
Clevelandlegacy.com has started what it calls an “Alumni Basketball Association Wall of Fame 50 Greatest Players of Cleveland County 1965-99.”
It adds: “These fifty champions wore more than just their school colors—they carried the hopes and dreams of every classroom, every neighborhood, every family that called Cleveland County home. From the gymnasium lights of Shelby High to the courts that echoed with the cheers of devoted fans, these players transformed local pride into regional dominance, turning Friday night games into sacred rituals that brought entire communities together. Their jerseys became symbols of excellence, their achievements a source of unwavering school spirit that transcended wins and losses to become something deeper—a shared identity forged in the crucible of competition and cemented by the unbreakable bonds of hometown loyalty.”
