American Legion baseball will be dominating the local sports scene for the months of July and August like never before this summer.
With Shelby the permanent host of the American Legion World Series, Cherryville’s Fraley Field hosting two national regionals for the next two years and the N.C. state tournament being hosted by the Gaston Braves at Gastonia’s Sims Legion Park for the next two years, the best of senior legion baseball will be in a 2-county region.
The 2026 N.C. junior Legion state tournament also will be in the area and hosted by Cherryville July 18-22.
Cherryville’s Fraley Field will host the event for the 4th time in its 23-year history. Only Goldsboro has hosted as many times.
The junior legion tournament will begin a month of top-level state and national Legion competition.
The N.C. state tournament will be played July 25-29 at Sims Legion Park with the Southeast Regional Aug. 5-9 at Cherryville’s Fraley Field and the Mid-South Regional is Aug. 5-9 at Sims Legion Park and Fraley Field and concluded by the ALWS August 13-18 at Shelby’s Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium.
