Seven teams in postseason bowl competition this year will have players from the area, including third team All-American Conference linebacker Dameon Wilson for East Carolina.

The Pirates (8-4, 6-2 American) are playing Pittsburgh on Dec. 27 in the Go Bowling Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md.
Wilson, a 2021 Kings Mountain High graduate, had 47 tackles in 11 games for the Pirates, who also got two tackles in two games from Jurnee Lattimore (North Gaston 2024) and Lance Ware (Shelby 1992) is East Carolina’s director of player personnel and recruiting.
Other bowl participants with local players or coaches are Clemson, Duke, Navy, N.C. State, Virginia and Wake Forest.
Clemson (7-5, 4-4 ACC), which plays Penn State on Dec. 27 in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl in Bronx, N.Y., has co-offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Kyle Richardson (South Point 1996) on the Tigers’ coaching staff.
Duke (8-5, 6-2 ACC), which won the ACC title and plays Arizona State on Dec. 31 in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in El Paso, Tex., has running backs coach Chris Foster (Gardner-Webb 2004) on the Blue Devils’ coaching staff.
Navy (9-2, 7-1 American), which closes its regular season against Army, plays Cincinnati on Jan. 2 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn., got 29 tackles in 10 games from Justin Ross (Huss 2023) and former Burns player Jay Guillermo is an offensive line coach for the Midshipmen.
N.C. State (7-5, 4-4 ACC), which plays Memphis on Dec. 19 in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Fla., got 22 tackles in 12 games from Travali Price (North Lincoln 2021), 12 tackles in 4 games from A.J. Richardson (Kings Mountain 2023), a 63.2 yard kickoff average in six games from Charlie Birtwistle (South Point 2024) and one game from Trent Mitchell (Ashbrook 2024).
Virginia (10-3, 7-1 ACC), who finished as ACC runner-up, plays Missouri on Dec. 27 in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., has the injured Dre Walker (East Lincoln 2023) on the Cavaliers’ roster.
And Wake Forest (8-4, 4-4 ACC) plays Mississippi State on Jan. 2 in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte and had one game from Brandon Hoyle (Shelby 2022).
