Former East Gaston High 3-sport star Jerry Brooks was inducted into the Campbell University Athletics Hall of Fame.
A 1991 East Gaston High graduate, Brooks was a wrestling standout for the Camels and was joined in Saturday’s induction ceremony by Pat Brogden (women’s tennis), Jerry Brooks (wrestling), John Crooks (golf coach), Bev Shepard Marley (volleyball) and Dale Steele (football) at the Oscar Harris Student Union and recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Monmouth.
Brooks, who graduated from Campbell in 1995, had a 39-7 record as a senior, won the Carolina Open and became just the 2nd national qualifier in Campbell’s NCAA Division I wrestling history winning the Eastern Regional.
A 2-time N.C. 4A individual state champion at East Gaston High School, Brooks followed his cousin Mario McCorkle to Campbell and won 64 matches in his career. In his senior year, he set school records with 17 pins and 39 victories. Campbell’s outstanding male athlete of 1995, Brooks led Campbell to a 36-14 dual record in his final 3 seasons on the varsity team.
After graduating with a degree in sports management with a concentration in business, he coached wrestling at Mount Holly Middle School (1995-98) and North Raleigh Christian Academy (2015-16) and served as an assistant football coach at East Gaston High School (1995-98). Now a financial entrepreneur, Brooks also was inducted in 2016 into the Mount Holly Sports Hall of Fame as an individual and as a part of the 1991 East Gaston state championship-winning team.
At East Gaston, Brooks was a standout in football, wrestling and baseball.

The Charlotte Hornets announced on Thursday guard Brandon Miller underwent surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. The surgery will end Miller’s 2024-25 season and the Hornets said they have future updates on his progress.
Miller was averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 27 games.
