The Hunter Huss High School athletics Hall of Fame will add 2 more members during Friday’s home basketball game against Cramer.
Gaston County and the school’s 1st NBA player Thomas “Bubba” Wilson and former baseball coach and principal Gary Henry will be inducted. They will join former Huskies’ girls basketball coach Jan Wiggins, who was honored in December.
A 1974 Huss graduate, Wilson led the Huskies to the school’s 1st state playoff victory in 1974 before becoming Western Carolina’s 1st All-Southern Conference basketball selection in 1978 and being drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the 1978 NBA Draft.
A knee injury limited his career to 16 games in the 1978-79 season when he played alongside future Basketball Hall of Famers Robert Parish (2003) and JoJo White (2015).
In 2011, Wilson was inducted into the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame.
Henry, a 1966 Gardner-Webb Junior College graduate, Henry coached football at Cramerton, Holbrook and Hunter Huss high schools, was Huss’ baseball coach in 1974 when he led the Huskies to their 1st state playoff berth before becoming a county administrator. A principal at Cherryville, Huss and North Gaston high schools and W.C. Friday junior high school, he named N.C. principal of the year in 1988.
In 2019, Henry was inducted into the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame.

In conjunction with the Chicago White Sox, the Charlotte Knights have announced the coaching staff under new manager, Sergio Santos. The Knights will open the 2025 season at Truist Field on Friday, March 28 at 7:04 p.m. against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves).
Santos, who managed Class AA Birmingham to a Southern League Championship in 2024, will be joined in Charlotte this season by Jim Rickon (hitting coach), Scott Aldred (pitching coach), Ángel Rosario (bench coach), Carson Wooten (athletic trainer) and George Timke (performance coach).
Timke is the only returnee from the 2024 staff, Rosario and Wooten spent 2024 in Birmingham with Santos and Rickon spent last season in Class A Winston-Salem. Aldred is a new addition to the White Sox organization.
