Wednesday’s roundup: High school basketball results, High school volleyball playoff match on Thursday, G-W loses ESPNU game on Thursday

East Lincoln’s Kaylee Spees was named South Fork 2A Conference volleyball player of the year

Kings Mountain, Crest and Mountain Island Charter stayed unbeaten in boys basketball and Ashbrook and Kings Mountain stayed unbeaten in girls basketball on Wednesday. Here’s the results:

High school boys basketball
Kings Mountain 55, Hunter Huss 54: The Mountaineers improved to 3-0 with one-point win over visiting Huss (2-1). Kings Mountain plays again on Friday at home against Ashbrook and Huss hosts Crest on Friday.
Kings Mountain also won the JV game 52-40 as Micah Ward scored 18 points, Eli Osborne 11 and Jayden Byers eight.

Crest 84, Ashbrook 64: Crest (3-0) stayed unbeaten and hosts Huss on Friday.

Mountain Island Charter 83, Langtree Charter 58: The Raptors (3-0) host Bradford Prep on Friday in their next game.

High school girls basketball
Ashbrook 56, Crest 26: Ashbrook (3-0) rolled behind Kennette Bess’ 16 points entering Friday’s game at Kings Mountain. Warlick had 11 points for Crest (2-1), which visits Huss on Friday.

Kings Mountain 63, Huss 49: Kings Mountain (2-0) hosts Ashbrook at home on Friday after winning behind Saniya Wilson (28 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals), Khalia King (17 points, 3 rebounds), Tyasya Bell (6 points, 6 rebounds), Kennedy Barnes (5 points, 4 rebounds) and Austyn Dixon (2 points, 5 rebounds). Jamya Daniels’ 29 points led Huss.

Newton-Conover 70, Lincolnton 33

East Rutherford 63, Burns 27 (Tuesday): Tishiona Strong’s 12 points led Burns (2-1), which plays again on Friday at Shelby.

High school basketball
Lincolnton has set reschedule dates for two upcoming girls basketball games – Jan. 20 at home against Bandys and Jan. 27 at home against East Lincoln.
Wednesday’s North Lincoln at Lake Norman Charter game was postponed to Jan. 27.
Tuesday’s Highland Tech at Piedmont Community Charter game was postponed to Feb. 4.

High school volleyball
Highland Tech will visit Mountain Island Charter in a matchup of unbeaten league champions in Thursday’s second round of the N.C. 1A playoffs.
Southern Piedmont 1A champion Highland Tech (12-0) swept Community School of Davidson in three sets for the Rams’ first state playoff win since 2008 and PAC 7 1A champion Mountain Island Charter (15-0) beat Mount Airy in four sets for their fourth straight first round playoff victory.

College basketball
Gardner-Webb’s men’s basketball games at Radford, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, will be rescheduled to a later date due to a pause within the Radford program for COVID-19 concerns. ESPNU had been scheduled to televise Thursday’s 7 p.m. game.
