Wednesday’s roundup: Gardner-Webb men’s basketball ready for debut, Cleveland CC softball signing and prep volleyball standings

After having seven previous potential season-openers postponed or cancelled, Gardner-Webb’s men’s basketball team has taken a seven-hour bus trip to Bowling Green, Ky., in hopes of opening its 2020-21 season at Western Kentucky Thursday night at 8 p.m.
Gardner-Webb previously had games at Duke (Nov. 25) and Florida State (Nov. 29) postponed, home games against Campbell (Dec. 4 and 5) and Presbyterian (Dec. 9 and 10) postponed and a game at Georgia (Nov. 27) cancelled.
After playing at Western Kentucky, Gardner-Webb is slated to play at Pittsburgh on Saturday at 4 p.m.
College softball
Cleveland Community College announced the signing of McMichael High’s Trinity Hatchel.
High school cross country
Shelby High’s girls team won the Southwestern 2A team championship.
