Two former local products for Belmont Abbey College were among those honored by Conference Carolinas for the 2021 baseball season.

Dylan Smith, a 2015 Forestview High graduate, was named first team relief pitcher after going 2-2 with four saves and a 2.31 ERA in 17 appearances for the Crusaders.

And Sam High, a 2016 West Lincoln High graduate, was named second team pitcher after 5-2 with a 3.99 ERA in 10 appearances (eight starts) for the Abbey.

John Michael Faile of North Greenville was named league player of the year, Hunter Stevens of Mount Olive was selected as pitcher of the year, North Greenville’s Pat Monteith and Erskine’s Dalton Reeves shared freshman of the year honors and Mount Olive’s Rob Watt was voted coach of the year.

Other Belmont Abbey players honored on the all-league team were first team second baseman Mason Dodd, second team outfielder Sean Johnson and second team pitcher Jason White.

The league tournament began on Wednesday at Wilson’s Fleming Field. Here are the results and pairings:

High school girls soccer

Crest 7, Kings Mountain 1: Madison Setzer (4 goals, 1 assist), Cadence Walker (2 goals, 3 assists), Alexis Marshall (1 goal), Jillian Hux (1 assist), Isabella Sanchez (1 assist), defenders Olivia-Claire Wall and Hannah Merritt and goalkeeper Emma Harrill led Crest (12-1, 11-1) as it clinched the school’s first league championship since 2011. The Chargers will enter next week’s state playoffs as the No. 1 seed from the Big South 3A Conference.

South Point 9, Chase 0: The Red Raiders (14-0, 12-0) completed an unbeaten regular season with a Southwestern 2A Conference title and the school’s fifth league title in history; The others came in 2005, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Forestview 2, Cramer 0: Forestview finishing its regular season at 10-1-1.

High school golf

Shelby won the Southwestern 2A Conference title and Shelby’s Connor Brown was named player of the year. Brown, a UNC-Greensboro signee, led the conference in individual scoring by 21 strokes and his last three rounds were a cumulative 9-under par.

 

 

High school baseball

East Lincoln 7, Lake Norman Charter 3 (Tuesday): Jordan Fisher went 5 2-3 innings for the win and Isaac Armstrong 1 1-3 innings for the save for East Lincoln (1-0), which got top offensive efforts from Matthew McCowan II (2-3, 3 Runs, 3 RBIs, 2 HRs), Armstrong (2-3, 2 Runs, 1 RBI, 1 HR, 1 SB), Graham Smiley (1-2, 1 Runs, 2 RBIs, 1 HR, 1 SB) and Fisher (2-3).

North Lincoln 16, West Lincoln 3 (Tuesday): Landon Reeves was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and he helped his caused with three hits and two runs scored. Also for North Lincoln, Seth Whitley (2-2, 3 walks, 3 runs, 1 stolen base), Daniel Carter (2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 1 stolen base) and Jack Carter (2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base) had big offensive games.
