Crest took over sole possession of the Big South 3A Conference boys basketball race with a 79-67 win at rival Kings Mountain.

Crest improved to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in league play entering Friday’s game at Forestview. Kings Mountain (6-1, 5-1) hosts Cramer on Friday in its next game.

Shelby 85, East Rutherford 33: The Golden Lions improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Southwestern 2A play with the home victory. Shelby hosts East Gaston on Thursday in its next game.

East Lincoln 48, Newton-Conover 47: The visiting Mustangs (6-1) held off a late rally to win the South Fork 2A Conference game behind Drew Bean and Evan Montanari, who both scored 11 points. East Lincoln visits Lake Norman Charter on Friday.

Forestview 63, Cramer 34: Camury Reid had 12 points and Daris Byers 11 for Forestview (2-5, 2-4), which hosts Crest on Friday night. Jacob Joyner (8 points), Mason Craig (8 points) and Mike Downey (5 points, 7 rebounds, 2 charges taken) led Cramer (0-7, 0-6), which visits Kings Mountain on Friday.
Cramer (4-3) won 39-31 in the JV game behind Daimean Fernandez (6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 2 steals), Taelan Whitley (6 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals) and Owen Sloan (4 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists).

Lincoln Charter 91, Piedmont Charter 28: Lincoln Charter (6-0, 5-0) rolled behind Troy Fulton (21 points, 7-9 3-pointers), Sam Cogan (12 points, 6 rebounds), Carter Seitz (11 points, 13 rebounds), Elijah Burnett (11 points) and Marcus Farley (10 points).

R-S Central 75, Burns 73

South Point 79, Chase 34: South Point was led by Cooper Ray (14 points, 8 assists), Ashton Harris (11 points) and Sully Absher (10 points, 10 rebounds).

Cherryville 59, Thomas Jefferson 53: Cherryville (2-3, 1-3) won at home behind Lavonte Hughes (24 points, 7 assists), Carson Kelly (14 points, 2 steals), Landon Hahn (8 points, 4 rebounds) and Jack Mulvey (7 points, 9 rebounds).

South Point 60, Cramer 57 (Monday): Garret Hunt (17 points), Cooper Ray (13 points) and Sully Absher (7 points, 11 rebounds) led South Point.

Huss at Ashbrook: Postponed until a later date.

High school girls basketball

Shelby 62, East Rutherford 38: Shelby (7-0, 6-0) knocked off visiting and previously unbeaten East Rutherford (4-1, 4-1).

Christ the King 37, Highland Tech 8

Kings Mountain 61, Crest 52: Kings Mountain (4-1, 3-1), which hosts Cramer on Friday, was led by Saniya Wilson (28 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds), Khalia King (15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists), Aaliyah Byers (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Austyn Dixon (4 points, 5 rebounds). Creste got 15 points apiece from Alexis Marshall and Vaniya Petty.

Lake Norman Charter 57, West Lincoln 46: Chloe Norman had 18 points and Morgan Chapman 15 for West Lincoln (2-5), which hosts North Lincoln on Friday.

Cramer 6, Kings Mountain 0 (Monday): Yahir Chico (2 goals, 1 assist), Drew Hooks (2 goals), Joseph Bravo (1 goal), Luke Johnson (1 goal, 1 assist), Max Accashian (1 assist), Rafael Hernandez (1 assist) and Jaymon Mack (goalkeeper) led Cramer.

College men’s basketball
Belmont Abbey 73, Southern Wesleyan 57: Chandler Baker (18 points), Sean Halloran (16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and Quest Aldridge (11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists) led the Abbey (7-2, 5-1) in the Conference Carolinas victory. The Crusaders play again on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at home against Lees-McRae.
