Several local high school athletes have been or will be signing college scholarships before Wednesday’s national signing day.

Here’s a list that will be updated throughout the rest of the week:

Ashbrook: Jesse Coleman (Belmont Abbey soccer)

East Gaston: Emma Kuproski (Catawba Valley Community College softball)

East Lincoln: Kaitlynn Crowe (Appalachian State softball), Katie Hogue (Central Florida softball), Payton Baker (USC Aiken softball), Kaylee Spees (Concord, W.Va., volleyball), Cade Doolittle (Surry Community College baseball), Sam Brooks (Mars Hill swimming)

Gaston Christian: Cody Chapman (Coker baseball), Grayson Guy (Maryville baseball), Ryan Thornburg (Montreat cross country)

College men’s basketball
Charlotte 63, Davidson 52: Jahmir Young had 18 points and seven rebounds and Jordan Shepherd had 16 points and seven rebounds as the visiting 49ers improved to 2-3 with the second straight win over their county rivals in the The Hornets Nest Trophy game.
Davidson (3-3) was led by Kellan Grady’s game-high 23 points.

East Gaston HIgh’s Emma Kuproski signs a college softball scholarship with Catawba Valley Community College.

East Tennessee State 65, Gardner-Webb 60: Host ETSU hit eight 3-pointers in the second half to rally from behind and beat Gardner-Webb.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs (0-3) were led by D’Maurian Williams’ 17 points off the bench.

Sun Belt honor: Former Piedmont Community Charter and Kings Mountain high school standout Adrian Delph on Tuesday was named Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball player of the week.
Delph tied his career high with 21 points in a 61-57 win at Charlotte last Friday.

Postponement: Tuesday’s Davidson at Charlotte game was postponed out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19 contact tracing.
Due to the proximity of the two schools, efforts will me be made to find a make-up later this season.

College lacrosse
Conference Carolinas favorites: Both Belmont Abbey teams were selected as favorites to win the league men’s and women’s lacrosse titles in voting done by conference coaches.
