Tuesday’s roundup: 2 of 7 local teams win in volleyball playoffs, prep basketball results and college football commitment

Two of the area’s seven high school volleyball playoff teams won their first round matches – and they’ll meet one another in Thursday’s second round. Here’s the full results of Tuesday’s matches:
Highland Tech 3, Community School of Davidson 0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-23): The unbeaten Rams swept the first round match to take their first playoff victory since 2008. Highland Tech (12-0) visits top-seeded Mountain Island Charter in Thursday’s second round.
Mountain Island Charter 3, Mount Airy 1 (25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20): The unbeaten Raptors downed Mount Airy in four sets to win a first round playoff match for the fourth straight season. Mountain Island Charter (15-0) hosts No. 8 seed Highland Tech in Thursday’s second round.
Patton 3, East Lincoln 1 (22-25, 27-25, 30-28, 25-17): The South Fork 2A champion Mustangs saw their season ende at 10-2. East Lincoln was led by Ashley Fowler (8 kills, 13 digs), Peyton Crates (29 assists, 15 digs), Jordan Gromlich (11 kills, 5 solo blocks), Maddy Gartland (9 kills),
Kaylee Spees (45 digs) and Linda Baker (10 digs).
T.C. Roberson 3, Crest 0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-7): The Big South 3A runner-up Chargers saw their season end at 9-3.
Marvin Ridge 3, Kings Mountain 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21): The Big South 3A champion Mountaineers saw their season end at 11-2.
Murphy 3, Lincoln Charter 0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-15): The Southern Piedmont 1A runner-up Eagles saw their season end at 10-4.
South Rowan 3, South Point 0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-22): The Southwestern 2A runner-up Red Raiders saw their season end at 10-3.
High school boys basketball
South Point 77, East Gaston 38: Ayden Baker (24 points) and Cooper Ray (14 points) led South Point (2-0), which hosts East Rutherford in its next game on Friday. For East Gaston (0-3), which hosts Chase on Friday, Trent Sherrill had 11 points
Lincoln Charter 92, Cherryville 35: The Eagles improved to 2-0 behind Troy Fulton (20 points, 6 of 9 3-pointers), Sam Cogan (18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists), Carter Seitz (16 points, 14 rebounds), Marcus Farley (13 points) and Elijah Burnett (9 points, 6 assists). Lincoln Charter hosts Highland Tech on Friday. Cherryville (1-1) hosts Bessemer City on Friday.
North Gaston 49, Forestview 45: The Wildcats, who hosts Cramer on Friday, improved to 1-1. Forestview (1-2), which visits Hickory on Friday, was led by Jamarion Dawkins (11 points) and River Unsworth (7 points).
Thomas Jefferson 61, Bessemer City 56: Randall Pettus (36 points 3 assists, 3 steals), Terrance Smith (10 points) and Jameer Holmes (10 rebounds) led Bessemer City (1-1), which visits Cherryville on Friday.
Newton-Conover 55, West Lincoln 45

High school girls basketball
Forestview 66, North Gaston 24: Myla Hoover (23 points, 4 assists, 5 steals), Jimena Vazquez (11 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks), Kendall Manning (10 points, 3 rebounds) and Kianna Robinson (7 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals) led Forestview (1-2), which visits Hickory on Friday.
Bessemer City 51, Thomas Jefferson 36: The Yellow Jackets (2-0), who visits Cherryville on Friday, won behind Janiya Adams (30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals), Imani Rhodes (9 points, 9 rebounds) and Daejia Hardin (5 points, 8 steals).
