Crest puts the wraps on an outright Big South 3A Conference baseball title with a dramatic 5-4 win over Kings Mountain on Thursday night.
The win improved the Chargers to 12-0 overall and in Big South play this season and ensures a home playoff game next Tuesday when N.C. High School Athletic Association playoff pairings are announced on Saturday.
Crest also won its 35th straight game over league opposition and its 17 win overall. The Chargers, which have won 20 regular season league titles in school history, are 43-1 in their last 44 games.
In Thursday’s victory, Jackson Ledbetter’s three-run fourth-inning home run erased an early 2-0 Kings Mountain (10-2, 11-3) lead and extended that advantage to 4-2 on Ben Hodge’s sixth-inning home run.
