Thursday’s roundup: High school and college basketball results, Charlotte 49ers baseball event scheduled

North Lincoln knocked off East Lincoln 81-70 on Thursday night in a South Fork 2A Conference matchup of unbeaten teams.
The Knights (3-0) return to action on Friday night at home against Lincolnton. East Lincoln (4-1) hosts West Lincoln on Friday night.
East Lincoln was led by Drew Bean (18 points, 9 rebounds), Evan Montanari (14 points, 5 assists, 3 steals), Logan Craig (13 points, 8 rebounds) and Jeremiah Jones (9 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists).
Kings Mountain 89, Burns 65
Kings Mountain also won the JV game 32-30 to improve to 2-3 overall behind Eli Osborne (9 points), Nicholas Cole (9 points) and Jayden Byers (6 points and game-winning free throws).
High school girls basketball
Kings Mountain 53, Burns 47: The Mountaineers (3-1, 2-1) were led by Khalia King (19 points, 4 rebounds), Saniya Wilson (14 points, 2 assists, 7 steals), Aaliyah Byers (8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Kennedy Barnes (6 points, 5 rebounds). Tishonna Strong’s game-high 26 points led Burns.
East Lincoln 40, North Lincoln 36
College men’s basketball
Belmont Abbey 76, Emmanuel 74: L.J. McCoy had 18 points, Mario Lacy, Jr., 14 and Charles Solomon 12 as the Crusaders (6-1, 4-0) knocked off visiting Emmanuel. The teams meet again at Emmanuel on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Schedule change: Gardner-Webb will host Charleston Southern on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Monday at 4 p.m. instead of travelling to USC Upstate due to COVID-19 concerns in the USC Upstate program.
College women’s basketball
Belmont Abbey 70, Emmanuel 60: Allie Downing had 17 points as Belmont Abbey (7-2, 3-1) took the Conference Carolinas home game. The teams meet again at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel.
The Charlotte 49ers baseball program, in conjunction with the 49ers’ Athletic Foundation, will host its second annual “First Pitch Event” to open up the beginning of the spring baseball season. The virtual event will be held via zoom on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
Charlotte’s second-year head coach Robert Woodard will host the event, which will feature accomplished guest speakers Mike Shildt and Daniel Bard, both Charlotte natives and recent major league award winners.
Shildt, an Olympic High graduate who is the current St. Louis Cardinals manager, was named 2019 National League Manager of the Year. And Bard, a Charlotte Christian graduate, was the 2020 National League Comeback Player of the Year as a relief pitcher for the Colorado Rockies.
