Thursday’s roundup: All-State prep volleyball selections, prep basketball standings and results and college basketball

Seven local products were named to the N.C. Volleyball Coaches Association all-state teams.

In Class 1A, Cherryville’s Rileigh Kiser was named player of the year and Mountain Island Charter’s Jim Seidel was named coach of the year. Kiser is the first all-state selection in Cherryville history and Seidel helped the Raptors become the first Gaston County school to advance to a state championship match.

In Class 2A, East Lincoln’s Kaylee Spees and Jordan Gromlich and South Point’s Anna Dunbar and Emily Revels were named to the all-state team. Spees and Gromlich led the Mustangs to a South Fork 2A Conference title.

And in Class 3A, Kings Mountain’s Aaliyah Byers was named to the all-state team and helped the Mountaineers to the Big South 3A Conference title.

High school boys basketball
Shelby 83, Chase 14: Two days after seeing after its 24-game winning streak came to an end, Shelby (9-1, 8-1) rebounded with a 69-point home victory.

High school girls basketball
Forestview 59, Huss 43: Myla Hoover (11 points), Kendall Manning (10 points), Jimena Vazquez (9 points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks) and Kianna Robinson (9 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) led the Jaguars (2-3) in their first game since Jan. 15. Forestview visits North Gaston on Friday night.

Piedmont Community Charter 58, Highland Tech 16

Kings Mountain 56, Cramer 21: Khalia King (15 points, 4 of 7 3-pointers, 4 rebounds), Saniya Wilson (13 points, 6 assists, 7 steals, 2 rebounds), Aaliyah Byers (10 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals) and Andrea Melton (5 points, 4 steals) led Kings Mountain (7-1, 6-1), which plays at Huss on Friday. Reece Wolfe had 11 points and Ranija Hamilton nine for Cramer.

Maiden 56, North Lincoln 50 (Wednesday): Ashley White had 23 points, Lilly Stump 11 and Haley Klein 10 to lead North Lincoln.
Maiden also won the JV game 25-21.

Ashbrook at Kings Mountain: Postponed to Friday

College men’s basketball
Gardner-Webb 59, Presbyterian 53: Jamaine Mann scored 12 points and pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds as the Runnin’ Bulldogs (7-11 6-7) won the Big South Conference nationally-televised game. Gardner-Webb got 10 points each from freshman Jordan Sears and D’Maurian Williams. Kareem Reid added eight points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.

Belmont Abbey 93, King 91 (OT): Quest Aldridge scored a career-high 31 points and forced overtime with a 3-pointer with 6.9 seconds remaining in regulation for the host Crusaders (9-2, 7-1) in the Conference Carolinas game. Chandler Baker added 16 points and four rebounds and Prince Davies (13), L.J. McCoy (12) and Charles Solomon (10) also scored in double figures.

College women’s basketball
Belmont Abbey 75, King 60: Alexis Schulz had her first career double-double to lead the Lady Crusaders (11-2, 7-1) to the Conference Carolinas victory. Allie Downing added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Abbey.

Postponement: This weekend’s Longwood at Gardner-Webb two-game series has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
