Former East Lincoln High standout Chazz Surratt and the North Carolina Tar Heels closed out the regular season in impressive fashion on Saturday.
No. 17 North Carolina won 62-26 at No. 10 Miami as the Tar Heels finished their season with an 8-3 overall record (7-3 ACC).
Surratt, a 2016 East Lincoln graduate, had 10 tackles and two pass break-ups as UNC now awaits its upcoming bowl destination.
Also for UNC, British Brooks (Ashbrook 2018) had one carry for one yard and Kendall Karr (Stuart Cramer 2020) and Ray Rose (South Point 2020) played in the game.
Buffalo 56, Akron 7: Aapri Washington (Mountain Island Charter 2017) had one tackle and one pass break-up as the Bulls improved to 5-0 and advanced to Friday’s Mid-American Conference championship game against Ball State in Detroit.
Virginia Tech 33, Virginia 15: Dax Hollifield (Shelby 2018) had five tackles as the Hokies improved to 5-6 overall and 5-5 in the ACC with the victory over their in-state rivals.
Pittsburgh 67, Gardner-Webb 50: Allowing the first 14 points of the game and failing to score until 7:43 remained in the first half proved too large a hole for the Runnin’ Bulldogs to overcome in the loss at the ACC’s Pittsburgh.
Gardner-Webb (0-2), which plays against on Friday at noon at home against VMI, did close within 25-18 late in the first half but could get no closer.
Jaheam Cornwell’s 13 points, three rebounds and four assists and Lance Terry’s 10 points and six rebounds led Gardner-Webb.
