S.C. high school football roundup: Northwestern finishes unbeaten run through 5A Region 4

South Carolina high school football continued Friday night and Rock Hill’s Northwestern High completed an unbeatern run through 5A Region 4 while the mentor knocked off the student in a marquee non-region game at Rock Hill’s South Pointe High.
Here’s a look at Friday’s games in York and Cherokee counties:
Northwestern 26, Spring Valley 7: Coach Page Wofford’s Trojans improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in their region. It’s Northwestern’s first league title since it was a tri-champion in 2017.
Dutch Fork 28, South Pointe 7: Mentor Tom Knotts took down his former pupil DeVonte Holloman, who played for Knotts at Charlotte’s Independence High School.
Dutch Fork improved to 6-0 while dropping the Stallions to 4-2; Last week, South Pointe clinched its seventh straight league title and 12th in 14 years when it completed a 4-0 record in 4A Region 3.
Catawba Ridge 40, Fort Mill 21: The second-year Copperheads increased their winning streak to five games since an opening game loss at South Pointe.
Catawba Ridge, coached by Zac Lendyak, led 40-0 before settling for the 19-point win over the non-region crosstown rival Yellow Jackets (0-5).
Nation Ford 37, Indian Land 34 (OT): An overtime field goal gave the Falcons the most exciting win of the night in a non-region home game.
Nation Ford improved to 3-2 with the victory.
Blythewood 30, Rock Hill 15: Rock Hill’s 5A Region 4 slate is now complete with an 0-4 record. The Bearcats are 0-5 overall entering next week’s home game against non-region crosstown rival South Pointe.
