Gardner-Webb’s basketball season-opener postponed after positive COVID-19 test

By Richard Walker

Gardner-Webb has played at least one ACC basketball opponent in 16 of the last 18 seasons.

That streak could be threatened as the school announced on Monday that Wednesday’s season-opener at Duke has been postponed following a positive COVID-19 test and contact tracing within the GWU program. According to GWU, the student-athlete who tested positive is currently asymptomatic.

The Bulldogs are now slated to open at defending ACC champion Florida State on Friday and Gardner-Webb and Duke may seek to make up their game at a later date.

Gardner-Webb also has a game scheduled for Sunday at Georgia and is slated to visit the ACC’s Pittsburgh on Dec. 12.
