Friday’s roundup: High school football with final regular season standings

Kings Mountain won its 12th conference titles and second in four seasons with an impressive 28-7 win over Crest in a battle of unbeatens at Kings Mountain’s Gamble Stadium on Friday night.

Both teams will advance to the state playoffs in pairings that will be announced on Saturday. Kings Mountain will be the No. 1 seed from the Big South 3A Conference with Crest (6-1, 5-1) the No. 2 seed from the league.
Caleb Holland scored two touchdowns and Ethan Reid and Blake Emory also had touchdowns for Kings Mountain, with Emory scoring on a 54-yard halfback pass from Chance Cannon with 13.6 seconds left in the first half.
The Mountaineers were a little more than two minutes away from shutting out Crest; Timothy Ruff’s 82-yard touchdown run with 2:15 to play gave the Chargers their first points.
Ashbrook 30, Huss 17: The Green Wave snapped Huss’ series-record four-game winning streak to claim the Victory Bell for the first time since 2015. Chandler Meeks’ 32-yards touchdown pass to Carmelo Bess with 5:06 left in the game snapped a 17-all tie as Ashbrook (4-3, 4-2) closed the season on a three-game winning streak.
South Point 36, Chase 34: The Red Raiders survived a late Chase rally to finish the regular season 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Southwestern 2A Conference. Tyson Riley scored three touchdowns and Will Rhinehart two for South Point, which also got a 25-yard field goal from Carson Smith.
Cherryville 43, Bessemer City 30: Chase Miller and Cooper Sloan scored three touchdowns apiece as the Ironmen finished the season with a 2-5 overall record while tying the all-time record with the rival Yellow Jackets 34-34-2 in a series that began in 1930.
Burns 70, R-S Central 39: Burns (5-2, 5-1) set a school record for points in a game to wrap up the No. 2 playoff berth from the Southwestern 2A Conference.
North Lincoln 40, Bandys 19: Daniel Carter had a big day as the Knights finished 4-3 overall.
East Gaston 28, North Gaston 25 (OT): The Warriors (2-5) with a second straight victory while improving their all-time series lead to 28-21.
Forestview 42, Cramer 19: The Jaguars (4-3) won for the second time in five days.
Christ the King 14, Highland Tech 7: The visiting Rams finished 1-4 with the loss.
East Lincoln 30, Newton-Conover 7: The Mustangs finished the regular season at 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the South Fork 2A Conference.
West Lincoln 35, Cherokee 7: The playoff-bound Rebels finished the regular season with a 5-2 record.
