Crest hires new head football coach
By Richard Walker
Crest High has a new head football coach.
Former Greenville, S.C., Thomas Jefferson and Hendersonville head coach Jim Sosebee was officially introduced as the Chargers’ 10th head football coach in school history on Tuesday.
Sosebee, 54, brings an 85-50 overall head coaching record that includes seven league titles and a 15-10 playoff record.
At Greenville, S.C., Sosebee led the Red Raiders to a 36-13 overall record and 27-2 region record from 2005 to 2009 with four region titles and three third-round playoff advances.
After one season as head coach at Thomas Jefferson, he was offensive coordinator at Hendersonville – helping the Bearcats to a 31-20 record from 2012 to 2015 – before becoming head coach in 2016.
In five seasons as Hendersonville head coach, Sosebee led the Bearcats to a 49-26 overall record and 22-10 conference record with three league titles and four third-round playoff advances.
In the 2021 spring season, Sosebee’s team won 33-31 over visiting Shelby; The loss is the only postseason defeat suffered by Shelby in its last 18 playoff games.
At Crest, Sosebee will replace Nick Eddins.
Eddins took the job at Class 4A Pinecrest in January after guiding the Chargers to a 43-17 overall record, 6-5 playoff record and to 2019 and 2021 Big South 3A Conference titles.
