Area IV Legion statistical leaders: Gaston County, Cleveland County Legion standouts lead in 6 of 7 statistical categories

Caleb Burr of the Gaston Braves and Tyler Smart of Cleveland County lead in two statistical categories and Gastonia’s Chandler Meeks and Cherryville’s Joseph Webb lead in one apiece in the final 2022 N.C. Area IV final regular season statistics.

In numbers provided by Area IV coaches, Meeks was the leading batter, Burr led in home runs and RBIs, Smart led in pitching record and innings pitched, Webb in strikeouts and Queen City’s Donovan Henkel in ERA.

Meeks’ .524 batting average is the first Gastonia Post 23 Area IV leader since Matt Postell (.526) in 1995.

Burr’s four home runs and 21 RBIs led Area IV in the regular season, with his RBI lead marking the first time Area IV has had a back-to-back leader in that category since Shelby’s Josh Drewery in 2005 and 2006; Burr led Area IV in 2021 with 16 RBIs.

Smart led Area IV in pitching record (5-0) and innings pitched (34) while Webb’s 55 strikeouts and Henkel’s O.93 ERA led their respective categories.
