For the fourth time in two months, a Charlotte 49ers game has been postponed following coronavirus issues.
At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Charlotte sent out a news release announcing its 3:30 p.m. Saturday game at Middle Tennessee has been postponed due to “positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the 49ers’ program.”
“We are extremely disappointed to have to postpone our game at Middle Tennessee,” 49ers Director of Athletics Mike Hill said in a school news release. “Our coaching staff and players were looking forward to the Conference USA matchup. The health and safety of everyone involved, however, remains the top priority during these challenging times.”
The release added that Charlotte officials will work with Conference USA and Middle Tennessee in an effort to reschedule the game.
Earlier this week, the 49ers added a home game next week against Gardner-Webb and Conference USA rescheduled a Oct. 17 home game against Florida International for Dec. 5.
Previous other postponed games due to coronavirus were a Sept. 19 game at North Carolina and Sept. 26 home game against Georgia State; The North Carolina has since been cancelled.
Entering Friday, 46 college football games have been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19 issues.
