Local history was made on Wednesday when the first East Lincoln High product was called up to the major leagues.
Ranked the No.5 prospect in the Cardinals’ organization, the outfielder was hitting .331 with 20 home runs and 87 RBIs in 109 games for Class AAA Memphis of the International League.
Burleson was a second round draft pick by St. Louis out of East Carolina in 2020 and had progressed from Class A Peoria to Class AA Springfield to Class AAA Memphis last year before spending this entire season in Memphis.

College baseball
After winning a championship in its inaugural season, Gaston College has returned to the baseball diamond to begin preparation for the 2023 season.
The Rhinos play a fall schedule that begins with a showcase at Lenoir-Rhyne University and Hickory High School on Friday.
The Rhinos’ program will have a lot to live up to after the school went 41-9, earned it first National Junior College Athletic Association ranking – they climbed to as high as No. 2 in one poll during the season – and won the Region 10 Division II West Division regular season title.
Gaston College will also play fall exhibition games at four-year schools Gardner-Webb, Campbell, USC Upstate and High Point in addition to hosting games at Sims Legion Park.
