Former North Gaston High standout Blake Brown was promoted by the Philadelphia Phillies to its Class AA affiliate on Sunday.

A 2016 North Gaston High graduate, Brown went 2-1 with eight saves with a 3.15 ERA in 33 appearances for the Class A Jersey Shore Blue Claws before being promoted to the Class AA Reading Fightin Phils.
A four-year standout at UNC-Asheville, Brown was a free agent signee of the Phillies in 2020.
High school athletics
On Friday, the N.C. High School Athletic Association, in conjunction with Wells Fargo, released the final standings in the 42nd annual Wells Fargo Cup competitions for the 2020-2021 academic year. The award recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications.
The champions are Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (4A), Weddington (3A), Croatan (2A) and Pine Lake Prep (1A).
