By Richard Walker

Former South Point High standout Garrett Davila last week won his second minor league championship as a member of the Kansas City Royals’ organization.

Garrett Davila

A 2015 South Point High graduate, Davila was the winning pitcher for Northwest Arkansas in the second game of the Naturals’ three games to none Class AA Central championship series sweep of Wichita. Davila pitched two innings of scoreless one-hit relief with four strikeouts in last Wednesday’s 5-1 win.

Davila also was a member of the Lexington’s 2018 Class A South Atlantic League championship team.

A fourth-round pick of the Royals in the 2015 draft, Davila has pitched in five seasons as a starter and reliever. This season, Davila was primarily a reliever with a 6-2 record with four saves and 2.95 ERA in 27 appearances for Class A Quad Cities and 0-0 with a 6.91 ERA in seven appearances for Northwest Arkansas.
