Gardner-Webb trailed at halftime against Western Carolina before its offense got untracked for a 52-34 victory at Spangler Stadium.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs (2-2) won their second straight game by scoring the game’s final 28 points – or after trailing 34-24 with 8:09 left in the third quarter.

Gardner-Webb quarter B Fisher completed 14 of 22 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, Narii Gaither rushed for 151 yards and one touchdown, Donovan Jones rushed had 102 yards and two touchdowns and T.J. Luther caught six passes for 119 yards and one touchdown to lead a 552-yard offense.

Western Carolina racked up 650 yards of total offense but the Catamounts made five turnovers that led to 28 Gardner-Webb points. Rogan Wells’ 427 yards passing and two touchdowns led the Catamounts (0-4).

Former Forestview High standout Tremayne Booker had five tackles for Gardner-Webb, which next plays at Monmouth on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. in its Big South Conference opener.

N.C. State 27, Clemson 21 (OT): The Wolfpack recorded its sixth home victory over a top 10 team as former Shelby High standout Jaylon Scott started at linebacker and made three tackles. Previous N.C. State home wins over top 10 opponents came in 1974 (defeated No. 7 Penn State 12-7), 1988 (defeated No. 9 Clemson 10-3), 1998 (defeated No. 2 Florida State 24-7), 2011 (defeated No. 7 Clemson 37-13) and 2012 (defeated No. 3 Florida State 17-16).
