Former East Lincoln High standout Chazz Surratt is one of four former local standouts on NFL rosters this year.

Surratt also played a key role in one of the most prominent plays in the NFL’s opening weekend as his block near midfield helped spring Xavier Gipson’s game-winning 65-yard punt return that capped the New York Jets’ 22-16 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills.
A 2015 East Lincoln High graduate who is a Jets’ linebacker, Surratt had no tackles; New York visits the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.
For the Minnesota Vikings, Jonathan Bullard (Crest 2012) started on the defensive line and made 4 tackles in a 20-17 home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while tight end Nick Muse (South Point 2017) was inactive; Minnesota visits the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
And for the Los Angeles Chargers, linebacker Tanner Muse (South Point 2015) didn’t play in a 36-34 home loss to the Miami Dolphins; The Chargers visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

An injury will force a change on the Carolina Panthers offensive line after left guard Brady Christensen will miss at least the next four weeks after he was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday.
It come after the franchise needed to use two combinations of starting offensive linemen in 17 games last season.
Christensen played every snap of the opener, but suffered a biceps injury late in the opener at Atlanta. (Later on Monday, reports surfaced that the injury would end Christensen’s season.)
Rookie Chandler Zavala started at right guard last week but spent most of his college career as a left guard at N.C. State, including many snaps next to current Panthers teammate Ikem Ekwonu).
It Zavala is moved, it would mean the team could start Cade Mays, Calvin Throckmorton or Nash Jensen as the franchise awaits the return of 2022 starting right guard Austin Corbett, who had offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL.
Also on Wednesday, the Panthers placed cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver on practice squad injured reserve (hamstring), released practice squad running back Spencer Brown and signed wide receiver Michael Strachan and running back Tarik Cohen to the practice squad.
Cohen is a native of Bunn who played collegiately at North Carolina A&T before making the Pro Bowl and earning All-Pro honors for the Chicago Bears. Cohen hasn’t played in the NFL the last two years due to injuries.
