Two of the five NFL players from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties survived Tuesday’s cut day – and one who didn’t was retained on his team’s practice squad on Wednesday.
Two of the three who survived cuts are on the Minnesota Vikings roster – seventh-year defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard (Crest 2012 graduate) and rookie tight end Nick Muse (South Point 2017)
Second-year linebackers Chazz Surratt (East Lincoln 2016) and Tanner Muse (South Point 2015) were released by the Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, respectively, on Tuesday and former East Lincoln and Lincolnton star Sage Surratt was released by the San Diego Chargers on the same day.
On Wednesday, Tanner Muse was placed on the Seahawks’ practice squad.
In the recently-completed preseason, all five played for their respective teams.
Bullard made two tackles in two games, Chazz Surratt 11 tackles in two games and Nick Muse four catches for 40 yards in three games for the Vikings, Tanner Muse had 11 tackles in three games for the Seahawks and Sage Surratt caught four passes for 29 yards in two games for the Chargers.

Three games in four days at the Myrtle Beach Invitational, a road tilt at Davidson, 15 contests inside Halton Arena and a 20-game C-USA slate highlight the 2022-23 Charlotte men’s basketball schedule.
