High school football teams into the third playing date of the season this week.
One game, South Point at R-S Central, has been cancelled due to COVID issues at R-S Central but South Point is trying to find another opponent.

High school cross country
Kings Mountain’s Parker Key and Thalia Kushman led the Mountaineers to eighth place finishes in Saturday’s North Carolina Cross Country Carnival at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.
Key finished sixth in the boys race and Kushman finished 17th. Both runners wore orange T-shirts in honor of former Kings Mountain runner Riley Howell, the UNC Charlotte student who lost his life on April 30, 2019 while saving the lives of others during a mass shooting at a classroom on campus.
Pro football
After finishing the preseason with a 1-2 record, the Carolina Panthers will be cutting down to 53 players by Tuesday.

In Wednesday’s week two schedule, Chavis visits Holbrook, Belmont plays at Grier, Bessemer City is at Cramerton, York Chester visits Southwest and W.C. Friday plays at Mount Holly.
Middle school softball
In Monday’s second game of the season, Bessemer City plays at Stanley, Southwest is at Chavis, Cramerton visits Mount Holly and Holbrook plays at W.C. Friday.
Pro baseball
One day after the Gastonia Honey Hunters set a team scoring record, it played in its highest-scoring game in team history when it lost 26-12 to Lexington.
Gastonia had beaten Lexington 20-8 on Saturday with Sunday’s loss dropping the Honey Hunters to 40-41 overall.
After a day off on Monday, Gastonia returns to action with a three-game series at High Point. High Point (14-9) leads Gastonia (13-10) by one game in the second half standings of the South Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
