Crest avenged back-to-back losses to Burns with a convincing 49-29 road victory on Friday that leaves the Chargers 2-0 entering next week’s game at rival Shelby.

Crest quarterback Ny’Tavious Huskey threw four touchdown passes – one to Malachi Addison, one to A.J. Adams and two to Javarius Green. The second TD throw to Green gave the Chargers a 49-21 lead.

Aiden Carson and Derek Mitchell added TD runs for Crest, now leads the longest rivalry in its school history by a 41-16-1 margin.

Pro football

The Carolina Panthers had a strong start to its 2023 preseason finale before falling 26-17 to finish with only the fourth winless preseason in franchise history.

Rookie quarterback Bryce Young completed 7 of 12 passes for 73 yards and a TD throw to Adam Thielen while helping the Panthers to a 10-0 first quarter lead.

Detroit, with former Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater completing 13 of 22 throws for 178 yards and 1 touchdown, scored 20 points in the second quarter and would hold on for the win.

Carolina has previously finished winless in the preseason in 1997 (0-4), 2000 (0-4) and 2009 (0-4) and fell to 53-57 alltime in preseason games.
