The 64-team American Legion baseball regionals begin on Wednesday at eight locations all across the country, including the Southeast Regional at Asheboro’s McCrary Park.
Defending American Legion World Series champion Troy, Ala., will play in the Mid-South Regional at Pelham, Ala., and three other teams from last year’s ALWS in Shelby also are in the field – League City, Tex., Midland, Mich., and Shrewsbury, Mass.
Randolph County Post 45, which has hosted a regional for 10 straight seasons, has the longest current streak of consecutive regional appearances; Like other regional hosts, Post 45 get an automatic regional berth and qualified as North Carolina state champion in 2017.
Other long current regional streaks are of 7 years by Troy and Shrewsbury.
The longest all-time regional streak is 18 straight years by Rapid City, S.D., from 1970 to 1987.
THe winners of the 8 respective regionals will advance to the 2023 ALWS in Shelby at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium from Aug. 10-15.

Clemson is favored to win the ACC football title for the 8th time in 9 years according to a preseason poll of 176 voters from last week’s ACC Kickoff that was held in Charlotte.
The Tigers went 11-3 last season for their 12th straight year of 10 or more victories while also winning the 2022 ACC Football Championship Game over North Carolina.
Clemson was voted ACC champion on 103 of 176 ballots. Florida State had 67 first-place votes, North Carolina 5 and N.C. State 1.

The Carolina Panthers on Tuesday officially released its 2023 jersey schedule as well as the game promotion schedule.
The Panthers will wear white eight times, black seven times, and blue two times season.
Carolina will open the regular season in white for 4 of the first 5 games (at Atlanta, New Orleans at home, Minnesota at home, at Detroit) before later wearing white jerseys on the road at Chicago, Tennessee, New Orleans and Jacksonville.
The Panthers will wear black in Week 3 at Seattle, in Weeks 8 and 9 at Bank of America Stadium against Houston and Indianapolis, in Week 11 at home against Dallas, in Weeks 15 and 16 at home against Atlanta and Green Bay and in Week 18 at home against Tampa Bay.
