The pairings are now set for the 2026 N.C. American Legion baseball state tournament that will be held at Gastonia’s historic Sims Legion Park.

The five most frequent state tournament participants lead the field as Wilmington (19th state tournament), Cherryville (17th), Garner and Rowan County (16th) and Shelby (12th) are a part of the nine-team field.

Other teams are Union County, the host Gaston Braves and Wilson (3rd) and Beulaville (2nd).

Area champions entering the tournament are Garner in Area I, Beulaville in Area II, Rowan County in Area III and Cherryville in Area IV.

Five of the nine teams have won previous state titles with Wilmington (13) the all-time time winner followed by Rowan County (9), Cherryville and Shelby (7) and Garner (4) in this week’s field.

Golf

The Rutherford County Sports Hall Of Fame (RCSHOF), presented by Hardin’s Drug, in conjunction with Golf Sponsors Forest City Honda and Chick-fil-A of Forest City, is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2026 T. Max Champion Memorial Golf Tournament.

The tournament will be held on Friday, July 31 at the Apple Vally Golf Course in Lake Luke, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration fee is $100.00 per player or $400.00 for a team of four and covers the green fee, cart usage and lunch.

First prize for Gross and Net Winners is $600.00 per team. Other prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries. Proceeds from the event go to support the RCSHOF Scholarship Fund and registration deadline is July 21.
