Landon Hahn scored the winning run and pitched four innings of relief for the pitching victory in Cherryville American Legion Post 100’s 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Gaston Braves in a weather-delayed playoff game.

The victory gave Cherryville 4-2 win in the best-of-seven N.C. Area IV semifinal series and Post 100’s 13th N.C. state tournament appearance.

Cherryville trailed 3-0 after 1 1/2 innings when the game was suspended after a torrential rainstorm on Tuesday night and fell behind 5-0 after two innings when the game resumed on Wednesday.

Another weather delay caused a 2-hour, 40-minute delay at that point before Cherryville started its rally with three runs in the top of the third (the Braves were the designated home team) and four runs in the top of the fifth.

The Braves knotted the score at 7 with a run in the bottom of the fifth before Cherryville tallied the game-winner in the eighth.

Hahn, who had two hits, scored the winning run after hitting a leadoff double, advancing to second on Zane Brockman’s bunt single and scoring on Cole Irby’s sacrifice fly. Then Hahn put the wraps on a four-inning, one-hit, five-strikeout relief effort in the bottom of the eighth.

Joseph Webb’s grand slam in the fifth gave Cherryville its first lead at 7-6.

The other Area IV semifinal between Queen City and Rutherford County was suspended to Thursday at 7 p.m. in Charlotte with Rutherford County leading 2-0 in the first inning; The teams are tied at three games apiece.

The Queen City-Rutherford County winner will meet Cherryville for the Area IV championship game on Friday at a site and time to be determined.

Pro basketball

Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to felony domestic violence charges filed by Los Angeles County prosecutors after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend in front of their two children on June 29.

District Attorney George Gascón said Tuesday his office had filed one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

Bridges entered not guilty pleas during an arraignment, the DA’s office said. Bridges was arrested on June 29 by Los Angeles police and was later released on $130,000 bond.

The Hornets and the NBA both said they were aware of the charges filed against Bridges.

“These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor,” the Hornets said in a prepared statement. “As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Bridges, 24, is a restricted free agent who was expected to command a large free agent contract this summer. A 20.2 scorer last year to lead Charlotte, Bridges was extended a qualifying offer by the Hornets that allows them to match any offer sheet made by another team.

The Carolina Panthers’ annual Fan Fest will be at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 11.

The event, presented by Daimler Truck North America, begins at 5:30 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 11. Tickets are $5 and go on sale to the public beginning Wednesday, July 13 at 10 a.m. on Panthers.com and Ticketmaster.

During Fan Fest, fans can see the Panthers practice on the stadium field and enjoy performances by the TopCats, Sir Purr, PurrCussion and the Black & Blue Crew before the night culminates with a fireworks and laser show.

A crowd of 52,673 showed at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium on a night where weather delayed kickoff for more than an hour and Charlotte FC won a penalty kick thriller.

After Christian Pulicic scored the first goal for Chelsea FC, Charlotte knotted the score in extra time before taking a 5-3 victory on penalty kicks in the exhibition contest.
