Cherryville American Legion Post 100’s Junior team will make its fourth N.C. state tournament appearance starting on Thursday when High Point Post 87 hosts the event at three fields – High Point’s Finch Field and Truist Point and Lexington’s Holt-Moffitt Field.
Cherryville (15-3), the No. 1 seed in Area IV, already knows its pool play schedule.
Post 100 will meet the Area III runner-up High Point on Friday at 4 p.m. at Truist Point, Area II champion Morehead City on Friday at Holt-Moffitt Field at 4 p.m. and Area I runner-up Kinston on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Should Cherryville finish first or second in its Stars division pool, it would advance to semifinals on Saturday at Finch Field at either 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. The 2021 N.C. Junior Legion state championship game is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m.

Legion baseball
The N.C. Area IV championship series schedule between Cherryville Post 100 and Rutherford County Post 423 will begin on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cherryville’s Fraley Field.
The second game (also in Cherryville) is Friday at 7 p.m. with a third game (if necessary) played at Cherryville on Saturday at 7 p.m.
College baseball
Former West Lincoln High and Cherryville Post 100 standout Brett Eurey has committed to play baseball at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Eurey hit .420 with four home runs and 45 RBIs as a sophomore at Catawba Valley Community College. Eurey was named an All-Region X outfielder.
High school basketball
In Monday’s East-West All-Star Games at the Greensboro Coliseum, the West girls and the East boys were victorious.
In the girls game, Enka’s Emily Carver (Appalachian State signee) had 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists as the West won 87-66. Knightdale’s Diamond Davis (N.C. Central) had a game-high 21 points for the East.
In the boys games, Farmville Central’s Terquavion Smith (N.C. State) put an exclamation point on his prep career that includes three straight state titles and 2021 N.C. Gatorade Player of the Year.

Smith had a game-high 30 points – 19 in the first half – as the East rolled to a 116-92 victory.
North Mecklenburg’s Chris Ford and Greensboro Grimsley’s Daniel Cooper had 20 points each to lead the West.
The East-West boys and girls soccer games will be played on Tuesday with the football game on Wednesday.
College cross country
A pair of 2021 North Gaston High graduates – Eliana Philbeck and Lily Clark – signed national letters of intent to run for Cleveland Community College.

Pro baseball
The Gastonia Honey Hunters lost a 14-12 slugfest at Southern Maryland on Tuesday night.
The loss drops Gastonia to 20-26.
