After a quiet first two days for the Charlotte Hornets in free agency, ESPN reported on Sunday that restricted free agent Miles Bridges has signed $7.9 million qualifying offer for the 2023-2024 season.

The move will allow Bridges to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and ESPN reports the restricted is being signed by Bridges because he and the Hornets are far apart in contract extension talks and Bridges’ agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports stopped pursuing offer sheets or sign-and-trade deals as a restricted free agent.

Bridges, 25, had been expected to be a top 2022 free agent with an expectation of a contract worth $100 million or more before being charged with felony domestic abuse in June 2022.

The 2021-22 season was the best season of Bridges’ four-year career as he averaged 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 80 games for the Hornets.

The NBA ruled Bridges will be suspended for the first 10 games of next season after missing the entire 2022-23 season.
