North Lincoln’s boys and girls won N.C. 2A track championships Saturday and Ashbrook freshman Camryn Massey set a state record in the 2021 championships held at the North Carolina A&T track complex.
North Lincoln’s girls were led by MVP Angie Allen, who won three individual titles as the Knights racked up 69 points to edge past second-place Burlington Cummings’ 64 points.
Allen won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.58, the 1600-meter run in 5:05.97 and the 3200-meter run in 11:13.81.
North Lincoln’s boys edged South Fork 2A Conference rival Lake Norman; The Knights had 66 points to 60 for Lake Norman Charter.
North Lincoln had two individual event champions as Ty Castro brought home the shot put with a toss of 54-4 1-2 and Jacob Scott won the 3200-meter run in 9:41.16.

In the Class 3A meet, Massey set a discus record with a throw of 140-9 and break the previous mark of 140-8 set by Shekinah Cooke of Southeast Guilford in 2019.
Other local winners were Cramer’s Allison Payton in the girls 300-meter hurdles and Kings Mountain’s Titus Phillips in the boys long jump.
Cuthbertson won the boys and girls 3A team champoinships.
Legion baseball
Cleveland 11-8, Maiden 5-4: Cleveland County swept a road doubleheader to improve to 8-1 on the season, which leads the Area IV Western Division.
Winning pitcher Ryan Emery (three hits, four RBIs), Jackson Ledbetter (three hits, one RBI), Colby Humphries (two hits, three RBIs), Porter Hall (two hits), Jeb Bridges (two hits) and Luke Reynolds (two hits) led Cleveland County in the opener.

And in the nightcap, Asher Smith picked up the pitching win with 3 1-3 scoreless innings of scoreless relief and Ledbetter (two hits, four RBIs), Boone Cartee (two hits, one RBI) and Hall (two hits, one RBI) led the Cleveland County offense.
Lincoln County 3, Gaston Braves 2: Lincoln County scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBIs from Reece Moody, Maddox Walker and Peyton Mincey to rally back from a 2-0 deficit. For the Braves, Daniel McClellan had two RBIs.
Gastonia 1-1, Mint Hill 0-12: Gastonia split a home doubleheader with Mint Hill.
In the opener, Dalton Thomason threw a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and had both of Gastonia’s hits.
Mint Hill banged out 12 hits in a five-inning win over Post 23 in the nightcap; Thomason and Jesse Osborn had Gastonia’s hits.
Burke County 8, Cherryville 3: Cherryville fell to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the Area IV Western Division.
Junior Legion baseball
Cherryville 9, Matthews 0: Will Blackburn had a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and had three hits, including a home run, as Cherryville improved to 8-0 overall. Easton Dellinger and Tobias Miller also added home runs.

Pro baseball
The Gastonia Honey Hunters tied a team record with a third straight win, 9-3, over Long Island on Saturday night.
The victory improved Gastonia to 2-0 on its 10-game homestand in addition to improving the team’s overall record to 13-12.
