Cleveland County American Legion Post 82-155 split a doubleheader at Cherryville Post 100 on Thursday to remain atop the North Carolina Area IV Western Division standings.

Cleveland County (4-1) is tied with Burke County (4-1) with Cherryville (6-2) in third place after Thursday’s games.

In the opener, Colby Humphries threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts as Cleveland County improved to 4-0. Luke Reynolds and Porter Hall led Post 82-155 with two hits and one RBI apiece and A.J. Wylie and Jeb Bridges had one hit and one RBI apiece.

In the second game, Cherryville won 4-3 behind starter and winner Landon Hahn (four innings, seven strikeouts) and reliever Zach Wilson (three innings, five strikeouts). Wilson, who picked up a save, and Will Heavner had two hits apiece and Hahn had one hit and two RBIs.

Pro baseball

The Gastonia Honey Hunters finished up their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record after a 5-3 win at Long Island on Thursday night.

Gastonia begins a 10-game homestand on Friday. The Honey Hunters host Long Island (Friday-Sunday), Southern Maryland (June 29-July 1) and High Point (July 2-5).

 

 

 

 

Basketball camp

The 25th annual East Lincoln High School boys and girls basketball camp will be June 28-July 1, with rising seventh-10th graders participating from 8:30 a.m.-noon and rising second-sixth graders participating from 1-4 p.m.

Longtime East Lincoln coach Chip Ashley, Director of the Denver Nuggets Travel Basketball teams, is again the camp organizer. announces the date for the 25th annual basketball camp at East Lincoln High School.

Cost of the camp is $65 when you preregister and $75 the day of the camp. There will be a $10 discount for families with two children enrolled in the camps.
