Cleveland County American Legion Post 82-155 opened its 2021 season Sunday with an 8-5 road win at Hickory.

Colby Humphries picked up the pitching win and Bradley Jordan got the save for Post 82-155 and Luke Reynolds, Porter Hall and Ryan Emery had two hits apiece to lead the offense.

 

 

High school girls wrestling

One Burns High athlete won a state champion and another was a state runner-up in the third annual N.C. High School Athletic Association girls wrestling championships on Saturday at Kernersville Glenn High School.

Burns’ Ella Beam won a state high school wrestling title on Saturday.

Ella Beam won the 195-pound weight class. Beam got a first-round bye then won her other three matches by fall, including the champoinship match over Jocelyn Paredes of West Wilkes.

Saige Cook finished runner-up in the 285-pound weight after going 3-1 in her round-robin competition.

Pro baseball

Gastonia fell to 9-11 on the season in a 14-13 loss at West Virginia on Sunday.

The Honey Hunters are off on Monday before a three-game road series at Long Island Tuesday through Thursday.

Gastonia then begins a 10-game home stand on June 25; The Honey Hunters will host Long Island (June 25-27), Southern Maryland (June 29-July 1) and High Point (July 2-5).

 

 

Basketball camp

The 25th annual East Lincoln High School boys and girls basketball camp will be June 28-July 1, with rising seventh-10th graders participating from 8:30 a.m.-noon and rising second-sixth graders participating from 1-4 p.m.

Longtime East Lincoln coach Chip Ashley, Director of the Denver Nuggets Travel Basketball teams, is again the camp organizer. announces the date for the 25th annual basketball camp at East Lincoln High School.

Cost of the camp is $65 when you preregister and $75 the day of the camp. There will be a $10 discount for families with two children enrolled in the camps.
