Mountain Island Charter continues its history-setting high school baseball season after the Raptors advanced to the Western N.C. 1A championship with 4-3 win over visiting Lincoln Charter on Saturday.
The Raptors (13-2), who had one playoff victory in school history entering this season, have won three postseason games and will seek a fourth on Tuesday when they visit East Surry (16-1) for the right to advance to a best-of-three state championship series next week.
Lincoln Charter’s season ended at 14-2.
In Class 2A, East Lincoln’s season ended in heartbreaking fashion.
The Mustangs scored three times in the first inning but were knocked off 6-4 by visiting Forbush when the Rams scored four times in the top of the seventh inning.
It ends East Lincoln’s season at 15-2.

Legion baseball
Lincoln County 16, Gastonia 13: Lincoln County won its season opener in an offensive shootout that included 21 total hits, 12 fielding errors and 19 walks. Peyton Mincey and Nate Lykins had two hits and three RBIs apiece to lead the Lincoln offense and starter Gavin Queen got the win and reliever Gavin Jiminez the save for the Cardinals. For Gastonia, Caleb Parker, Ben Carpenter and Austin Parker each had three hits.
Caldwell County 10, Cherryville 3: Visiting Caldwell County snapped a 3-all tie with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to drop Cherryville to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Western Division of N.C. Area IV
High school track
Western 3A regional: Kings Mountain’s boys won its first regional title since 1998 on Friday night at the T.C. Roberson High School track.
The Mountaineers’ 11-player team racked up 111 points and the top four finishers in each event advance to the 3A state championship meet at North Carolina A&T on June 26. Forestview as the area’s next-highest finisher with 66 points for third place.
Leading Kings Mountain was Titus Phillips, who won took regional MVP honors after winning the long jump and finishing second in the high jumo and triple jumpe.
