On Friday night, North Greenville defeated Point Loma 5-3 to win the NCAA Division II World Series at the USA Baseball Training Complex at Cary.

Two local products were on the Crusaders’ (54-10) roster this season – Noah Ingle (Cherryville 2020 graduate) and Cooper Sain (Cherryville 2019); Ingle went 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in 10 appearances (two starts) this season.

Pro soccer

Twelve days after inaugural coach Miguel Angel Ramirez was fired, Charlotte FC returned to action under interim coach Christian Lattanzio.

And a first half goal from Ben Bender and second half goal from Derrick Jones were enough to give Charlotte a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday afternoon at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.

The win improves Charlotte FC to 6-8-1 in its first season in Major League Soccer (MLS).
