The 2nd annual June Classic at Shelby’s Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium and Cherryville’s Fraley Field will come to an end on Sunday with games in Shelby.

After Friday and Saturday games, Rowan County and Cherryville went 2-0 in their respective pools with Wayne County and Anderson, S.C., finishing 1-1 to take 2nd place spots in Sunday’s matchups.

Rowan County meets Anderson, S.C., at noon with Cherryville facing Wayne County at 2:30 p.m.

Cherryville 11, Queen City 5: Reliever Ashton Pope picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of work and Pope (2 hits, 3 runs), Colton Mayes (2 hits, 2 RBIs), Joseph Webb (2 hits, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) and Evan Hartsoe (2 hits, grand slam home run, 4 RBIs) led the Cherryville offense.

A crowd of 31,563 at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium saw Charlotte FC rally to tie the score 3-all after falling behind by one goal three times.

The final equalizer came in the 89th minute as Charlotte FC’s seasonal record reamins break-even at 7-7-4.
