Rivals North Lincoln and East Lincoln gained top honors in All-Western Foothills 3A baseball, softball and girls soccer selections in voting by league coaches and released recently.

In baseball, North Lincoln has seven selections led by pitcher of the year Landon Reeves; Matt Heavner, Reece Moody, Maddux Walker, Timmy Schafer, Kellen Karr and Josh Fox also were Knights all-league picks and first-year Charlie Goss was named the league’s coach of the year.
East Lincoln has six selections led by player of the year Garrett Michel; Graham Smiley, Trey Spees, Gavin Houser, Isaac Armstrong and Evan Matile also were Mustangs’ all-league picks.
In softball, unbeaten conference champion East Lincoln had six all-league selections in Leah Correll, Taliyah Thomas, Betsy Eatmon, Taniyah Thomas, Tatum Martin and Madison Currence.
St. Stephens’ Mayson Lail was named pitcher of the year, Foard’s Riley Vogel and North Lincoln’s Lilly Stump were co-players of the year and North Lincoln’s Breanna Tapp was named coach of the year.
North Lincoln’s all-league selections were Stump, Tessa Hunt, Clara Grace Dellinger, Ellie Huss and Skyla Morrison.
And in girls soccer, co-champions East Lincoln and Hickory led the team.
East Lincoln, which advanced to the Western semifinals were led by offensive player of the year Deana Poteat, all-league selections Deana Poteat, Abbie Hege, Cambell Vanderhaar, Sadie Badget, Devin Poteat, Ginny Overbay and Hannah Casey and coach of the year Jason Dragoon.
Hickory also has seven all-league selections led by defensive player of the year Taylor Rose and Foard was led by player of the year Alexis Wolgemuth.
North Lincoln had one all-league selection in Autumn Lutz.
College baseball
In the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III World Series, Caldwell Tech’s 25-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday in a 6-3 loss Dallas College-Eastfield but the Cobras stayed alive on Monday with a 5-1 win over Northern Essex.
Caldwell Tech (48-8) faces St. Cloud on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in an elimination game at Pioneer Park in Greeneville, Tenn.
Seth Willis, a 2019 West Lincoln High graduate, picked up his 13th pitching victory of the season as Caldwell Tech won 3-2 over St. Cloud on a walk off, two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth of the Cobras’ first round victory on Saturday. Willis struck out seven in his complete game five-hitter.

Cleveland County 5, Hickory 2: Kings Mountain’s Devin Pressley threw the eighth no-hitter in team history as Post 82-155 won an Area IV Western Division home game over Hickory. Pressley struck out 11 batters and yielded five walks.
The last Post 82 no-hitter came in 2008 when Jacob Tisdale no-hit Lake Norman.

Auto racing
An event that started on Sunday evening ended less than an hour before midnight to create history at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord.
After five hours, 13 minutes, 18 cautions and 17 cars finishing in the garage, Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag for the longest race in NASCAR history at 619.5 miles.
Hamlin edged Joe Gibbs racing teammate Kyle Busch by 0.014 seconds in double overtime.
