Gaston Day School set school and county history on Thursday when it found out it won the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Wells Fargo all-sports award for Class 2A schools.
The Spartans become the first Gaston County school in history to win a statewide all-sports award.
In the 2021-22 school year, Gaston Day won state championships in boys golf and boys soccer and girls swimming, tennis and volleyball.
The Spartans also were state runner-up in boys tennis and advanced to the boys basketball semifinals and the baseball quarterfinals.
